Bijziendheid is de algemene term voor myopie: een oogaandoening die meestal begint in de kinderjaren. Als je bijziend bent, heb je een bril of contactlenzen nodig om veraf weer scherp te kunnen zien, bijvoorbeeld om de tekst op het schoolbord of de ondertiteling op de tv te kunnen lezen.

Twee belangrijke factoren in bijziendheid zijn erfelijkheid en lifestyle. Er zijn echter nog veel factoren die nog niet bekend of volledig begrepen zijn.
Welke invloed heeft bijziendheid op mijn kind?
Je kind heeft mogelijk een sterker voorschrift nodig naarmate hij/zij groeit. Bij jonge kinderen kan een lage sterkte een teken zijn dat ze aan het begin van de ontwikkeling van hun myopie staan.
